May. 31st, 2015 12:59 amstar name: Sol-de ( /sol/ ·[duh] )
world name: Terreni ( /ter/ ·[nee] )
→ earth and its demise: the sun ballooned into a red giant, making our planet uninhabitable.
→ new world discovered within the Andromeda Galaxy. Technology was developed for swift relocation, and a colony was formed on a planet within the new solar system; equipped with its own Sun-like star. Animal species were in short supply, as well as plants, so they were guarded and taken care of.
→ bred animals and planted crops, eventually incorporating indigenous animals and foliage. Mutation of both, as well as of humans, due to eating of the natural plants and wildlife.
→ physicality of natives:→ light to tan skin
→ varying hair/eye color
→ born with unique markings on their body
→ do not dream
→ may experience mental instability due to traumatic experiences
→ one inclusive language: al-language
→ technology consists of all things simple (i.e. plumbing, sanitation systems)
→ solar-power energy sources
→ climate/geography/habitat
→ the planet’s makeup is similar to earth one
→ average temperature of 68 year-round
→ no rain
→ no extreme heat or cold
→ two closely orbiting planets visible from Terreni’s surface
→ both unnamed; planet one has a cracked ring, the other resembles Terreni
→ single moon and stars visible at night
Marked individuals, the majority, are placed in appropriate fields and are meant to contribute in a meaningful way to Terreni society. Unmarked individuals, the minority, are allocated positions in non-ability oriented fields and are still required to contribute. Mismarked individuals, rare, are unaccepted by society and are subsequently removed.
Marked:
→ all marks are nature-based; they affect the environment in some way but not its people
→ marks appear at birth
→ abilities mature as the body does
→ growth of ability is natural but can be developed through practice
→ designate future career, which solidifies the general knowledge that everyone is born with one purpose
For example, a child born with flower petal markings may have an inclination to help flowers grow.
Unmarked:
→ no markings or abilities
→ general laborers; jobs or careers that are not based upon ability
For example, a child born without markings or abilities might be best suited to a position that requires no gift such as refuse removal, cleaning, cooking; etc.
Mismarked:
→ powers don’t match markings
→ no marks but still manifest abilities
→ marked but with no abilities
All mental abilities are considered Mismarked and unacceptable. For example, a child born with no marks but can enable a fruit tree to bear a larger number of produce OR a child born with marks but no discernible abilities.
Grade 1: singular, stationary, and black markings
→ typically faint abilities
Grade 2: multiple, stationary, and black markings.
→ slightly stronger abilities
Grade 3: single, moving, colored or black markings.
→ may have single or multiple abilities that are stronger and each associated to the other possessed ability
Grade 4: multiple, moving, colored or black markings.
→ multiple or single abilities, typically of a higher power level
Each child is pre-screened around six years old for determined occupations to ensure that they are functional and not Mismarked and are only schooled in that field once decided. They receive a general education from parents that consist of basic skills (reading, writing, some math, etc.) and enters school of chosen field at age seven.
